Reasonable Cause CPD Qld donates 100% of it profits to Reasonable Cause Inc. a charity that helps disadvantages young Cambodians further their education. Reasonable Cause CPD (Qld) was inspired by the work of its counterpart conference in NSW. Some examples of past university scholarship recipients are set out below:
2022 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Sreypel
In 2022 Sreypel commenced studying a Bachelor of Tourism at Mekong Cambodia University. Sreypel substantially grew up in out of home care. There is no student loan or deferred fee payment scheme for university students in Cambodia. Reasonable Cause supports Sreypel with all expenses including a new Honda Dream motorcycle, new laptop, new Samsung smartphone, textbooks and other expenses as required.

2021 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Hor
Hor is enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor of Information Technology at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s most prestigious tertiary institution. Notwithstanding his humble beginnings, he was always at or near the top of his class throughout high school. He aspires to being an App developer after graduating. Hor has been assisted with university fees as well as the purchase of a brand new Dell laptop computer and a Honda “Scoopy” motorbike to assist him in travelling to and from campus. Hor works part time in a convenience store.

2021 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Soknai
Soknai is enrolled in the first year of a Bachelor of Public Administration at Mekong Cambodia University. The degree is very similar to a Law Degree and leads to professional employment opportunities not only in government, but also the private sector and NGO sector. Soknai was very focused on her studies throughout high school and now her dream of attending university has become a reality. Soknai has been assisted with a new Lenovo computer with all relevant software and a new Honda “Scoopy” motorbike to assist her in travelling to and from campus. Soknai works part time in a convenience store.

2020 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Sievhong
Sievhong is the winner of the 2020 Reasonable Cause QLD University Scholarship. Sievhong is studying her first year of a Bachelor of International Relations at university in Phnom Penh. She has been assisted by the purchase of a Honda NXC 1250cc motorbike to get herself to and from university, as well as a brand new Lenovo laptop computer loaded with all the relevant software. Sievhong is also assisted with university fees, a living allowance and incidental expenses pertaining to her education.
March 2021 update: Sievhong has successfully completed the first year of her degree and is now in her second year.

2019 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Heng
Heng is a young woman with a strong academic background during her school years. Heng’s mother works in a garment factory. Heng is ambitious to achieve something more and understands that education is the key to her ambition. Heng is studying tourism at university in Phnom Penh. Reasonable Cause QLD is assisting her in her journey through university.
March 2021 update: Heng successfully completed the first year of her studies. She later decided to discontinue her studies as she now has a young family.

2018 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Sievheang
Sievheang is a young woman who always focused on her studies at school. She dreamed of the day she might be able to attend university. She achieved a good result in the Cambodian Year 12 National Exam in 2017. Sievheang and her family could not afford a university education. Thanks to lawyers attending Reasonable Cause QLD conferences, Sievheang has enrolled in a Bachelor of Industrial Relations degree in Phnom Penh.
March 2021 update: Sievheang has thus far successfully completed two years of her degree. She is currently in her third of four years.

2017 Reasonable Cause (NSW) University Scholarship Winner – Waew
Despite horrific burn injuries sustained as a child, Waew is now a young woman focusing on her skills and abilities. With financial assistance from a Reasonable Cause QLD University Scholarship, Waew is studying for a Bachelor of International Relations at university in Phnom Penh. She is a very smart, happy and friendly person who strives to succeed and has the world at her feet.
March 2021 update – Waew has successfully completed her Bachelor of International Relations degree. She is working for an NGO in Siem Reap assisting young people and receiving a professional salary.
